My Brother Graduates College

Hey there everyone. My brother graduated from college over the weekend. Well, he walked in graduation over the weekend; technically he finished classes back in December, but his school gets so much snow in the winter they measure it in feet, and my grandparents weren't going to be able to make that trip. So instead of braving a frozen tundra, we went on a calm trip that was still a little nippy (there were mounds of snow, our hotel had a sign on the door that said "patio may be icy," and according to my brother there was still a fair amount of snow when he went back a week before to tie up some loose ends. Anyways, my brother, dad, and I took one car and my mom, grandpa, and grandma took another car. Mom left on Thursday and took 2 days to get there, whereas Dad, bro, and I took 1 day to get there.

Now for some stories. I took off the Friday because graduation was Saturday and we needed to travel all day Friday. The plan was I go to my parents house on Thursday, spend the night, and then we leave right from there house Friday morning at like 6AM. On Thursday afternoon, one of the project managers decided to hold a meeting 10 minutes before I was going to leave, and I was determined to get out of there. I came in, said "here's what you need to work on, I'm going on vacation now." He kept pressing the things I was saying his team needed to work on, and why I was bringing it up to him, and I responded "because that's what senior management wanted me to do, now I'm going to start my vacation." This went on for 40 minutes. Now, this manager and I have a good working relationship, and the kind of banter we were having is OK because of what we've been through, so it's not like I was causing any problems, but I did have a rocky start to this little trip. Once I finally got out of work, I packed up my stuff, and began my hour long drive to my parents house (because rush hour traffic). For dinner, "the men" had pizza from one of the local joints. I basically spent the night streaming playstation vue and trying to finish a project I started 2 years ago. I also cleaned off my video camera memory card, because I was going to film graduation and I don't want to run out of space (because that would be bad). I also wanted a drink after the day I had, but dad and bro don't like the same kind of alcohol I like (they like just beer, I like everything except beer), so I was really glad to find one of my Henry's Hard Soda's in their mini-fridge from the last time I visited.

OK, wake up at 5:45, load up my stuff into the jeep, eat my muffin, pack some drinks and snacks for the road, and get ready for a 10 hour car ride. I was finally going to watch some of my DVD box sets. I started out with Please Twins (which I reviewed and can be found here), an anime series I picked up at a thrift store on impulse (it was $3, and I like anime). Pretty funny series, even if it is a bit weird. After that I watched the first half of Futurama season 5. That was pretty much what we did for the drive. While we were driving, we stopped at a gas station, and it just so happened that we caught up with my mom and grandparents at that same gas station. What a coincidence. I also picked up some chips. I got dill pickle flavored chips and maple bacon flavored chips. The maple bacon flavored ones were REALLY good. I don't know how to describe them, except like the perfect blend of sweet and salty, with a hint of bacon. After 9.5 hours of driving, we reach my brother's college town, and we stop at his and dad's favorite bar. They each have a beer, and as someone that doesn't care for beer I had their house soda (a cherry root beer). Now, I'm not a big fan of root beer, but it was cool having a house brewed soda. After our drinks, we checked into our hotel and unpacked, and mom arrived at about the same time.

Now for trying to figure out dinner. At first we thought "order in pizza," but we couldn't really find a good place. Them my mom had the idea of "lets get these local meat pies," because grandpa and bro really like them, and everyone else likes them, except me. Luckily the place that makes them also makes deli sandwiches, so I had an Italian beef sandwich. I had my sandwich, and everyone else had their meat pie. Now, it's been a good 6 years since I last had one of the meat pies, so my brother wanted me to try it again; I did, and still didn't like it. This confused my grandpa; "what do you mean you don't like it, it's good stuff." Because I like my potatoes fried not baked, I don't like the other things they put in it like peas, and they don't put nearly enough meat in it for my liking. Oh, and here's a real hoot; when we went to get the food, I ran into one of my old college professors. This was really unlikely, because my old college and my brother's college are nowhere close to each other. He must have been there for graduation as well. I made some small talk, and pulled out my challenge coin I got for completing the program. That impressed him some. Then when we went to pick-up some house brew beer from dad and bro's favorite bar, we ran into some of his old professors. That was kind of fun.

Now the real festivities begin. Bro's program was holding a little reception at one of the dorm ball rooms the night before graduation. My grandparents wanted to go, but they have trouble walking, and the ball room was down a bunch of stairs. That was not good, because that meant they weren't able to go, because this was held in a location that was not ADA compliant. Apparently there was a freight elevator, but that went to an office that no one had the key to. We found this out after getting my grandparents in the car and driving there. Needless to say we were not happy, and Mom made it known. I suggested we sue, to get some of our tuition money back, but we didn't go through with it. So, I took a bunch of the cookies they were serving. Mom asked me "why am I taking so many cookies," and I said "they're for the pain and suffering; if we aren't going to sue, I'm going to take a lot of cookies." She didn't argue with that; no "that's childish, grow up, let it go," because they had it coming. It was a nice little reception. They showed all the graduates in a slideshow, and bro's picture had him with scraggly hair and unkempt beard. Since my grandpa couldn't be there, I played his complaints; "hey, that beard doesn't look good, you knew you were getting your picture taken, why didn't you clean up your beard, and why didn't you get a hair cut." Just yanking his chain.

Now for the big day. Bro goes there early because he's part of the event, and mom went early to make sure they got a good seat. Now, my brother was only able to get 4 main stadium tickets, but there were 5 of us. So, the parents and grandparents take the main stadium tickets, and I had to sit in overflow. Overflow, means I had to watch it in the basketball gym on a projector. It was the same live stream my other grandpa and aunt watched at her house. Anyways, I was still going to film the important parts (even if it was a low quality boot leg, lol). Now, seeing that this wasn't my first graduation, I knew I needed to bring something to keep me occupied. Yes, the speeches by the university president and guest speakers are generally good (unless it's a 2 hour speech on the peace corps, like my mom experienced at another graduation ceremony), but I don't care about the 400 other students getting their names read. So I brought Avatar The Search Part 1 and Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man, 2 books that have been sitting on my shelf for years. I also had my 3DS, but I take it everywhere so it's not like that's special. I also had my camera bag, and safety vest, and cargo shorts full of my normal random stuff, and my fedora. Now the trick to looking so conspicuous is to subtly act like you're official and should look that way. Seeing that I like to casually dress like this and have been for 8 years, I've learned how to do that, but I was fully prepared to get searched. The bag checker asked to see inside my camera bag, saying "just looking for bombs, flasks, weapons, drugs, and such." Well, it's a good thing I don't carry my pocket knife in my camera bag. I found a good seat in the center. I played my 3DS, and read the dedications that were being shown. One student thanked Monster Energy Drink, and that was funny.

Now for the great thing. About 10 minutes before the ceremony started, a lady came in and said "OK everyone, we have about 200 seats open behind the graduates, anyone interested?" Sure, I'll take a better seat. I go there and "set up camp." The grads were all in, and I took some video. Here's something good. While taking the zoom shots, one of the people in front of me kind of kept getting in the shot. I thought "hey old man, can you stop getting in the shot" (he had white hair). After about 45 minutes, I thought "the back of those people's heads looks familiar," and then I realized that was my family, like 5 rows in front of me. How about that? So my mom got there 3 hours early to make sure she got a good seat for my physically challenged grandparents, and I get essentially the same seat by chance 10 minutes before it starts. The speakers were good, and they did it in alphabetical order. Though, it was a little confusing since one announcer was reading the graduates from 1 department, and the other was reading the graduates from another department; but I eventually figured out the rhythm and was able to read my books while I waited for my brother to get called. Then when he got called, I continued reading my books. Part way through the ceremony my grandpa had to stand up and turned around some, and saw me; then everyone turned around and saw me.

Afterwards I met up with them and helped get them out of the stadium. I also brought up how much of a hoot it was that I was able to essentially sit with them. We got everyone out and in the hallway while we wait for my bro. When he shows up we go to the photo op area and take some pictures. We even get some with the mascot. There were also some refreshments. Mom and I each had a $100,000 cupcake. And after some time, we happened to get our picture with the university president, because he happened to walk through the hallway at the same time we were. Cool. We also took some pictures outside. Being an ammeter filmmaker, I played with perspective to make really good shots of the family. After those pictures, my brother and I went around to some more places around campus he wanted to get pictures of. Again, good thing I know some things about photography, because I was able to take some well composed shot (well, as good as one can take with what I had to work with).

After taking pictures, we stopped at his frat house. He said hi to his frat brothers, I introduced myself as "his biological brother," and I had a hot dog (because hadn't eaten anything since breakfast). They weren't the kind of frat boys I'm used to from my college days. The frat boys at my college were the typical "frat boys," whereas his frat brothers were more laid back. An hour later we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. There were also a lot of prom kids that started showing up as the dinner went on, because apparently it was prom weekend too. That took me back. The rest of the night was pretty laid back. My brother spent the night with his frat bros, and Mom just couldn't sleep because he was out.

Now it's Sunday, and we head back home. I finished Futurama season 5, and started Cowboy Bebop. We stopped at the same gas station that had the maple bacon chips, and I was going to buy many bags. Unfortunately, they were sold out. Something tells me I'm not the only one that really likes those chips. After 10 hours of driving, we arrive back at my parents house. We unloaded my dad and brother's stuff, I loaded up some stuff to take to my condo, and then I started the hour drive back to my place. It was a really good trip. Short, but good. This has been Pokematic, signing off, and bu-bye.

Moving my Brother Out

Hey there everyone. My brother finished his 4th year of college, and this meant it was time to move him out, and this is the adventure I had. Dad and I took off Friday so we could leave Thursday after work. I had to mail my iClicker that I sold on eBay, but after I got home from that we packed up my van and went on our way. We made it to our hotel after 4 hours of driving, and we only made it a couple hundred miles. Oh well. We stopped at the same hotel we did a couple years ago for another time we either moved my brother in or out. Last time there was an arcade left over from when it was a holladome, and I gathered some quarters to play the Pac Man cabinet even Billy Mitchell would have a hard time with. Unfortunately they got rid of the arcade games, so I had to surf the web like an adult. Oh well. They did have Disney XD, which was fun since I don't get Disney XD. I also found out why I haven't seen ads for Pokémon Sun and Moon on Cartoon Network, because it airs on Disney XD. At first I was wondering "why didn't Cartoon Network renew the rights to the next Pokémon series?" Then I remembered Cartoon Network thinks "action doesn't sell." Oh well.

Friday the next day we eat breakfast and get on the road again. After some driving Dad notices a notification on my dashboard. My car says "I need an oil change," when we're on a road trip away from my mechanic. I read the owners manual and it says "don't go more than 10,000 before an oil change." Well, that ain't happening. If we found a dealer along the way I could have had it changed, but we didn't. We stopped at a gas station that sells minnows for bait, because it's kind of country. I decided I was going to pet the fish, and I guess they've been contained for so long they didn't even flee when I stuck my hand in. I bought some Cheetos to snack on along the way. After hours of driving we finally make it to my brother's house. I've not been to his rental, so this was interesting. Now I figured his house would have been in the student neighborhood, with a bunch of rental houses. No, his house was right in the middle of down town. Like, on one side was Little Caesars, on the other was the hotel, and a couple blocks down was the bar and brewery. It was pretty awesome. The house was also pretty weird too. Check out some of the video I took.

Dad and I unpacked our overnight stuff, we set-up in the rooms we were going to stay in for the night, and got settled in. After an hour or 2 of relaxing after 5 hours of driving, he took us on a tour of the labs he worked in over the semester. That was cool. After the tour we parked our car at his house and walked to the local pub and ordered a pizza. It was good. After dinner I went to the local videogame store and bought some games I don't have, and a complete PS2 golf simulator I know I will never find in the wild again. After that we just relaxed for the rest of the night.

On Saturday we packed up all my brother's stuff in my van and his car. We were going to hang out around his college town for the day, but we've seen and done everything, so we got going early. PepperBC was graduating this weekend, and she was going to school relatively close to my brother. It was 100 miles away, but it was on the way back home, so we stopped by and visited for an hour. It was fun. After visiting and a lot more driving we made it to our hotel. We unloaded our overnight stuff, and Dad looked for someplace to eat. We found a local bar, and had some bar dinner with a drink. I had a cheeseburger and they had chicken. It was a good burger. We relaxed the rest of the night.

On Sunday we started on our way back home. I did a lot of driving on the home stretch. Since I had my car to myself (Dad was driving with brother), I recorded my Dan VS podcast. There wasn't much else from Sunday. We unloaded our cars, and that was pretty much it. It was a fun little trip. Really glad I took it. This has been Pokematic, signing off, and bu-bye.

To Be A College Student for a Weekend

Hey everyone. This past Thursday was my film club's annual student film festival. Since I was a student 5 months ago, I made some short films with them and entered them into the festival. However, since I'm now a full time employee, I can't just go across the state and watch short films with my friends on a weeknight. So I had to use 2 days vacation time to have fun, and with the way my department is structured, it wasn't a problem (even though a couple of guys that know me from my internships gave me a hard time about taking vacation less than a month from starting, lol). So here's my experience.

I woke up Thursday morning and hit the road at about 10AM. I didn't have any trouble finding where I had to go, and when I broke for lunch I went to a GoodWill that was really close to the McDonald's I stopped at. I picked up a PS2 DDR dance pad for $2. The cashier was happy that someone bought it since apparently they don't sell very fast. After lunch I continued driving to my old college. I made it after about 3 hours. Once I got there, I made a quick stop at my engineering campus. I was hoping to see some old friends or maybe some professors, but neither were there. Well that figures, most of my friends that would hang out at the cafe or computer lab graduated, and it was during class hours so my professors were probably teaching a class. Oh well, it was cool seeing my second home again. After the engineering college I went to the GoodWill that was 1 mile away from campus. I bought a PS2 RF adapter, brand new for cheap.

After the GoodWill, I went to the student union where I wanted to hang out, hoping to find some old friends or just watch Toonami on AdultSwim.com. I had to re-configure my laptop so I could access the school's wifi. Now this Wi-Fi is just meant for students, but since I still have my log-in information, and they only reset log-in servers at the beginning of the school year (I think), I was able to log-in and still enjoy the student Wi-Fi. I told my friends I would be there, and one of my friends I met in my last semester stopped by to talk. Oh, I also had to use the visitor metered parking since I was a visitor. The meters at my college are a rip-off. It's 1 quarter for 10 minutes. Every meter parking I know of (down town my home town and down town my college's close city) give you 30 minutes for a quarter. I had to pay like $5 in quarters to park at the student union for the couple hours I was there. Then when I went to the auditorium parking, I had some trouble finding a spot since there was like some event going on, so I accidentally parked in "30 minute limit" parking, only to find out after pumping $1.50 in to see "the time's not increasing." I found another spot that was REALLY close to another car, so I had some fun getting out. Then I spent about another $5 on meters.

But then things got fun. I went to the building where the festival was happening, and went to where it was before. I set-up at a lounge and watched some more Toonami. Eventually one of the current members of the group told me they were meeting upstairs. I packed-up my stuff and met them up there. This is when I started filming the fun behind the scenes video I always do, and I'll get it all edited together, once I get my camera back from my friend. It was fun seeing them again. We hung out and got caught up while the others scrambled to get things all set-up for the night. And then TisLiberte, our former president of 3 years, showed up and that's when things got REALLY fun. Whereas I was one of the most dedicated member that really bled for the group in my last semester, TisLiberte was probably the most dedicated member ever and just brought a whole lot of fun to the group. Oh man we had some fun.

Now it's film time. Everyone got in and, well I'll let the video speak for itself (once I get the footage and edit it). I entered 3 shorts I filmed over the semester; got pyramid, Pokemon anime/game cross over, and School: an Educational Establishment (featuring iMonster). Halfway through the festival there was intermission. I changed into my Oddish costume. Oh that was fun, and everyone really enjoyed it. There was also photo booth fun. Here's the picture of TisLiberte and I.
Yeah it was fun. After intermission it was time for more films. After more great films, it was time for judging. I changed back into normal clothes, and took some more video. The winners were all deserving of their coveted golden VHS tapes (my idea from 3 years ago might I add when they were talking about how expensive real trophies would be). It was kind of symbolic in that the short film that had not only TisLiberte, our president of 3 years, directing it, it also had a founding father work on it, and we tried to call him in Florida to congratulate him live during the acceptance speech. We left him a fun voice mail. It was a fun 4 hours of short films, that ended at 11 PM. Why, because college. The films were really good this year. Like, previous years there were some really bad films, and not just "I'm an engineer that doesn't understand experimental art house" bad, but "film students in the group were making fun of how bad they were later" bad. This year they were quite funny/entertaining, and the worst was "well it just dragged on a little."

Afterwards, everyone that was still around went to IHOP for dinner/late night snack. There were like 9 of us that were there. It was really fun to just hang out with the film club again, while eating chocolate chip pancakes. One of the members jokingly asked the group (not the waitress) "what's on draft?" (There's no alcohol served at the international house of pancakes, so it was quite funny). Why ask something like that, because college. We were there for 2 hours having fun, hanging out, and enjoying breakfast food. One guy got a 55 and over menu option. I don't think the waitress really cared. Another member wanted a child smiley face pancake, but he decided against it and got an adult meal. Also, bear in mind that we got there at like 11 PM at night, and we stayed there until 1 AM. Why? Because college. I showed up at my friend who was letting me spend the weekend with him on one of his futons at like 1:30 AM, and he had a test the next morning at like 8:30 AM (I don't miss that part of college).

OK so it's now Friday morning. I wake up at 10 AM (because vacation), and have some coco krispies while I surf the morning web. So this was kind of funny; I'm sitting in my friend's living room with his girlfriend, and the power was cut off because he forgot to pay the electric bill or something. It was kind of funny to see it actually happen. I went to McDonald's for lunch, and then pumped $6 into the meter so I could park until they stopped enforcing it. I intended to just watch Toonami until Pokemon, but I ran into a friend and we talked for about 2 hours. After she had to leave I watched Toonami, and hopped that I could see Saint and/or Sudden, but they were busy. Oh well.

So now it's Pokemon time. I wore my Oddish costume, and it went over quite well. The president has always given me a hard time about how cringey my costume was, since it's just a blue spandex morph suit with a plastic fern sticking out of the back. He was fine with it once he saw it in person, and the vice president wanted a picture with it for his snap chat. We had fun with a game of Pokemon Trivia, and it was quite a fun time, especially to be a college student again.

After Pokemon I went back to my friend's place and we ate the extra popcorn from the film festival while we watched Clerks. Oh yeah, a local movie theater donated like a couple cubic yards of popcorn for the film festival, and there was like a cubic yard left over. I took the left over and gave it to my friend as a "thank-you for letting me crash" gift. Why? Well I'm just naturally eccentric like that (it wasn't "because college" this time lol). We watched Clerks specifically because I was talking about it when we watched Bowfinger last time I was in town. In Bowfinger Steve Martin's character says something like "every movie is filmed on a budget of $1000," and Clerks really was filmed on a budget of like $1000 (though it was actually more like $23,000 according to Wikipedia). He really enjoyed it, and we had like $20 worth of movie popcorn while watching it. I also had like Indian Rammen for dinner with him (because he's Indian and a college student, so he of course had bricks of instant noodles sitting around that remind him of home). They tasted really good, but later that night I woke up with some indigestion because of the spices or something. Curse my Caucasian American intestinal system, because they were REALLY good. Oh well. After the movie we watched an episode of "Those Who Can't," because that was advertised on Crackle when we watched Bowfinger the last time I was in town, and he had a lot of fun with it.

It's Saturday now. Since I was on that side of the state, I decided I was going to take the extra hour to go visit Brandi. It was a little hard going there alone, but I still felt good to visit her. Her grave wasn't marked yet, so I spent about 5 minutes walking around the small cemetery "playing hide and seek." When I gave up looking for her headstone, I stood where I remember the burial happening and just said my prayers while looking around. Oh Brandi; even in death you're still very playful. After my last point of visit, I started the now 3 hour drive home. I got home around 5 PM and I had a lot of fun being a college student again. Well, now it's time to go back to being a real world adult. I'll be sure to link the film festival video once I get my camera back and the video edited and uploaded.

But until then, this has been Pokematic, signing off, and bu-bye.

Graduating College and the Last Weeks

Well everyone, after 4 and a half years, 9 total semesters, I am fully graduated. Boy, this was a journey. I had some really crazy classes, really fun adventures, and all sorts of fun and stress. You can look through the last 4 years of posts if you want to remember the fun. But this isn't a time to talk about all the old times, I already have. Today, I'm going to talk about the ending of it all.

Lets go back to the week before finals. This was when I had the last meetings of all my clubs. With my students for life club, we had a nice Christmas party where we listened to Christmas music, ate snack foods, made baby blankets to donate to the crisis pregnancy center that Brandi volunteered for, and were our overall goofy selves. I played Veggie Tales Christmas Silly Songs (Oh Santa and 8 Polish Foods Of Christmas) and Bob and Doug McKenzi's 12 Day of Christmas. Since we're like an unofficial Christian group (all the members just happen to be Catholic), everyone recognized the Veggie Tales songs, and then the older guys in the group thought Bob and Doug's 12 Days of Christmas was funny because of the "on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a beer." Good final time with them.

At my last filmmakers club meeting, I gave a going away speech as the last OG member. I gave a history of the club from the beginning, and how all the events impacted me and the group as a whole for better or worse. It was a really moving speech, and a great way to say fair well to the club that kept me from just being surrounded by engineers 24/7. At my Pokemon club we had a little pizza party, and I brought book marks for all the club members. These were official scholastic book fair Pokemon bookmarks my mom got to give to her students, but she said "no, my son and his Pokemon club will appreciate these more than my students," and they did. We played some Pokemon TCG, and then played smash bros and Pokemon Stadium. I dominated at the minigames, for the most part. There were some games where the input lag on the HDTV screwed me over, and I was like "I want a rematch, on a CRT. Lets go out to the smash players with their CRT's and play without input lag." Yeah, that's me. We didn't though, and I still won. Afterwards I tried selling some of my duplicate amiibo, but that failed. Oh well. Anyone want to buy Sonic new in box?

Finals pre-weekend I did what I always do, lock my self in my dorm and study like crazy. I did, for the most part. I only had 3 REAL finals considering that 1 final was a presentation (Tri-Z) and another was a guided discussion (Health and Wellness). Saturday I studied for Digital Logic, and Sunday I studied for Mechanics of Materials and History of the World. I probably should have divided them up more evenly since History and Mechanics were the harder subjects. Oh well. I ultimately did well in all my classes. My Tri-Z presentation went well, and I got my ISM challenge coin afterwards. That presentation was on Monday, my only test Monday. I did help my one friend study for digital logic on Monday. He somehow got a bootleg copy of the final from last year, and we studied off that. I helped him by showing him how to do those problems, and it helped me by having to teach the material.

On Tuesday I had Digital Logic and Health and Wellness finals. Digital Logic was one of the easiest tests I've ever taken. We had 2 hours to do the test. I was done in 45 minutes. It wasn't just because the test was almost identical to the one from the previous year, but because I was just so prepared. Boy, a 2000 level class is REALLY simple when you're used to 4000 (almost 5000) level classes. Then the discussion for Health and Wellness was really easy, just talk about the semester as a class. After the final some friends and I went to McDonald's to get Pokemon Happy Meals. Yeah, 3 college students, 1 a graduating senior, went to get Pokemon Happy Meals. We were a sight. It was great to hang out with them outside of a classroom setting. I'm going to keep in contact with them.

On Wednesday I had my Mechanics of Materials and World History finals. Mechanics I was confident, but kind of unjustly so, because I only knew about half of the stuff on it for sure, and the other half I kind of knew the general concept. Ultimately I think I did well enough considering that I got an A in the class. Whatever. In my history class I think I also did fairly well, even though I just kept cramming and cramming without much results. I went to the room an hour beforehand in hopes that it would keep me from getting distracted. It kind of did, but not really. I still got an A though. That night my friend since freshman year and I hung out to celebrate the end of finals and film a parody theme song for Pokemon based on engineering. I'll get that uploaded at the end of the week. Fun time.

Now for Thursday. On Thursday the only big thing was going to pick up my brother. He was getting a ride to about where my college was. OK, it was like 50 miles from my college, but closer than his college at the other end of the state. He and I did some packing, but mostly hung out. We watched a James Bond film until he passed out from exhaustion on my futon.

Friday is when the festivities really began. First of all I had to get my brother's ticket for graduation. I showed up to the ticket counter at about 9 AM, told them my name and how many tickets I needed, and then went on my way. My dad got up to my school around noon, and we were moving out my stuff. I was planning on checking out on Saturday, but because I didn't go through the necessary steps, I had to move out on Friday. Whoops. Oh well, we were able to get it all out and in the vehicles. Not long before I was all done my mom arrived after dropping my grandparents off at the hotel. She moved some things. After getting all my stuff out, I went through the procedure to check out and turn in my keys. I said bye to my dorm room of 2 and a half years. It was alright. After that we went to the hotel and picked up my grandparents for my honors college chord presentation. I graduated with honors and got honors chords to show it. There was a little ceremony where we were presented with our chords. It was a nice little ceremony, and my mom got to see the parents and grandparents of my one friend who is the cousin of one of her friends. It's a really small world. We met in calc 2, and by coincidence my mom found out that he's the cousin of some of her old college friends. Yeah, funny how life is. At the ceremony we have someone important to our college journey present us with our chords. I had my grandma give me my chords.

After the ceremony, we made our Christmas card photo with me in my graduation get-up and my parents and brother. After the picture, we went right to Costco to get them in so they would be ready the next day. However, since it was a really slow night, they said they would be ready in an hour. So we ordered our pizza and waited. For some reason this kid just walked up to me and started talking with me about Pokemon. I asked him "do I know you?" and he said "maybe, you look familiar." My mom found it very surreal since the kid dressed and acted like me at that age, and was very into Pokemon. I tried to be as uncreepy as possible, since he was like 10 years younger than me and I was a stranger, but I also didn't want to be all "go away kid." It was really weird.

On Saturday, it was the main event. It's all been leading up to this. I wake up, eat breakfast with my family, and get fully dressed for the occasion (freshly ironed gown, honors stole, 2 sets of honors chords, and hat with 2 tassels, one for my college and one for my university). We drive up to the auditorium to drop my grandparents and I off. I had to go check in. I found my way to the graduate area. After finding the right place for my college, I got my things and found a seat. I looked for friends to sit next to, but none of my friends had showed up yet. I'm really glad I brought my 3DS with me. After about 15 minutes one of my good college friends showed up. We talked for the other 15 minutes while we waited. Nothing super earth shattering, just some nerd small talk. I filled out the card for getting graduation pictures once those came around. All went well.

Well now it's time to march us out. I was expecting alphabetical order, but instead they called our names when we gave them the card with our names on it, which made it fun to sit next to friends, but hard to coordinate when to take snapshots of the event. I set-up a text to tell my brother to get ready when I was next. Before we walked into the auditorium I got my picture taken back stage. We walked out into the auditorium and got some speeches. They were nice speeches. The best was when the president of the university used the meme that surrounds him. It was great. I walk back stage, get in line, tell the people calling the names my name, and then walk out. I had my family cheer for me, shook hands with the university president while receiving my $100,000 piece of paper, shook hands with the dean of the engineering college while receiving my engineering challenge coin, shook hands with my professors that were there, and hug the lady that works in the admission office. It was great to walk. Afterwards I made some jokes to my friend, like when the president said "by the power vested in me by this institution, I now pronounce you graduates," when I leaned over and said "you may now kiss the diploma," and also when there was a 3rd "the third" I leaned over and said "that's the third third." Great ceromony.

So after the ceremony I was tasked with finding my family. I ran into the same friend that I filmed the engineer Pokemon parody with. He somehow got a ticket to see the graduation. I gave him a hug and thanked him for being there. In true style, he said "no problem bro, I'm glad I could be here." I found my family not to hard, and we took some pictures and went out to lunch. I invited my friend, and he came to say hi to my family, but he wasn't able to stay. My family liked him, and he liked them. At the restaurant he thanked me for the academic help and I thanked him for the "have some fun" help. Another friend to keep contact with.  After lunch we went back to the hotel room and relaxed. I opened up my graduation cards later that evening.

Sunday was the last of the graduation festivities. We went to my student church, me dressed in my graduation get-up. Hey, I spent around $100 on this, so I'm going to get some wear out of it. I got recognized as a graduate as well as other graduates. After church we went to get some final pictures, basically recreating the ones I took as an incoming freshman, but with my cap and gown. After that I drove home, alone. The last thing of mentioning with regards to graduation is how I wore my cap and gown tor my other grandpa who wasn't able to make it to the graduation. He got to put my honors chords on me, and pull me around by them like a pack animal. Just some fun.

Man, this was crazy. It's weird knowing that I won't be going back to school at the end of my little break. Right now I'm working on fining a job, and my prospects seem OK.

Well, this has been Pokematic, signing off, and bu-bye.

I guess I've come to terms with my summer

Hey everyone, if dreams are really the key to the subconscious, then I've come to terms with summer ending and going back to school. Last night I dreamed that I was like in prison, but it was nice, like a dorm meets hotel. I felt trapped and decided I was going to bust out, with some help. I had like Batman and Cat Woman and some friends help me, and it was all elaborate and stuff. But it wasn't going to be easy. I had people out to get me and keep me there.

The big day came, and I wend running. Initially it was a little hard to get my momentum, but once I got going, there was no stopping me. I had guards and traps trying to stop me. But they were no match. Then things started getting hard. Like I was in an elevator and the enemy cut the motion, so I was stuck mid floor. I wasn't going to have that. I forced the door open and slipped onto the main floor. I made it to the door, after dodging many obstacles, mostly things just in my way. I get outside and I'm in a parking lot. There was just 1 car. This was my get away car. All I had to do was hot wire it, and I knew how to do it, sort of. I reached under the steering wheel and grabbed some wires that were already pre-cut for hot wiring. I try some combinations, but none of them worked.

Then out of nowhere, I just give up and decide to go back quietly. I don't know why, but I decided to just let what had to happen happen. I put my hands where they can see them, and decide to just go back. But when I get to the door, no one attacks me, just say "welcome back" and escort me back to my room. My room looks a lot like my dorm room, and my roommate is different.

Now I'm no psychologist, but I know enough to know that that wasn't just another one of my crazy dreams. What I believe it meant was that all summer long I've been running away from school. I needed to get my momentum going initially, but after that I was in the clear. As time went on it got harder and harder to deny the inevitable, even up to the last week, being the elevator that I forced open. Then the lot, just one way out, but it can't be accessed, because I lack the necessary skills. Then eventually it kicked in that this is what happens and will happen, so just accept it. School didn't want to hurt me, but welcomed me. The help in the dream I think was my friends that I hung out with over the summer.

When I woke up I realized that it wasn't just another dream. From that I realized it was over. It had a good run but it was over, and it was time to accept my fate. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu-bye.

A follow up to "the largest buzzkill EVER"

For the original, click here.

Hey everyone, well it's been a little over a year since I wrote "the largest buzzkill EVER." I was cleaning out some school stuff and found the original popcorn bag and paper towel I wrote it on so I decided I'd better get around to uploading the pictures. After that, I decided to read it to see how true their predictions ended up.

For starters, I recall having a very good summer with no cares about school. My grandma wanted to bring up the fact that "it's so amazing that you're in college now." I explained to her many times, "I don't think about that. It's summer, a time for not even thinking about school. Don't even mention it in the slightest." After about 3 times she caught on, and stopped bringing it up until 1 week left in summer when you do have to seriously think about it.

School chants and fight song, don't know the chants but do know the fight song. It's important to know the fight song, but since I don't do sports, I figure it'd be a waist of memory.

Now for the big thing on changing. Long story short, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. (Raspberry) I'm still the same geeky kid I was when I went there. As I said, I don't change, I amplify. I still love cartoons, anime, and collecting video games, but maybe just a little bit more. I'm far more interested in politics, but still a conservative republican, so suck it liberal indoctrination camp. Well to be honest, my professors didn't really get into politics, and the one that did was conservative. I did lose weight, 15 pounds actually. But happy about it and good amplify. To any one who is afraid of college changing you and you have no control over it, it's garbage. You'll change only if you want to. You'll probably mature because it's a lot closer to the real world, but your personality and interests, all your decision. Me, I chose to just amplify, keeping the vest and getting a safety yellow hoodie.

The part about losing all your high school friends, also garbage. While in college I texted my best friend from high school what seemed like every day. ZeldaMaster93 and I are still best friends who enjoy talking about video games, movies, and to a lesser extent life. I helped my ex through a tough time in her life in realizing that "bad high school is over, the best is yet to come." She even wrote about her soul searching adventure in her blog. We didn't talk much during it because she needed distance from her old life and I was part of it, but we're still friends. I don't talk much to my ilose friends, but that's because I guess I never got to close to them. I did try to keep contact with CleveArtois93 but he changed his phone number with out me knowing so some poor guy is getting my "talk to me damnit" texts. But yeah, I'm still friends with some people from high school.

So yeah, anyone who is going off to college and is afraid of losing your self because of what everyone says, don't be. You'll mature if you aren't already at that level of independence, but other than that, you are the master of your own destiny, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu-bye.

Moving out

Hey everyone, would have posted this sooner, but got busy. Now that I have some time to breath, here is my moving out of my dorm blog.

About 2 weeks ago, I just had my last finals. All were on Monday, and I was planning on moving out saturday, so I had some serious time to pack. I started with the easy things like packing up all my school stuff. I was able to fit all of it in one bin. It was quite heavy. Then I moved on to the other things like my clothes and what not, just keeping out enough for me to last the couple of days. I had milk crates full of snacks, and I was able to move some stuff around to be able to empty one. In that empty one, I put all my super nintendo stuff, and the couple of other videogame things I aquired to bring home, in that one crate. It was Wednesday when my roomate was over with his finals, so with that, we took apart the futon. We just used our desk chairs to watch TV until move out day. Here's the pictures that I gathered of moving out.
Where the futon was

The plan was I move out Saturday, but aparently "My parents can't come and get me until then, wasn't a sufficient excuse to stay beyond closing. So instead they came to get me Thursday. My roomate's parents came up on Wednesday night. You could tell we were moving out, along with a bunch of other people because the halls were full of stuff. We were able to get the majority of his stuff into his parent's van, and that which wasn't he put in his truck. We folded up the carpet and moved his bunk over to the other wall, because aparently that's how it needs to be. I baught the futon and carpet off of him, so new stuff to bring home. Once we were done moving his stuff, we got my stuff back in the room and it was all right where his bed used to be.

Now my parents come up. We move everything, using the dolly, cart, and freight elevator. My dad was able to pull the van right up to the loading zone. It made it a little easier to fill the van. Luckily my grandparents had their van because our van was full but I still had stuff. We were going to check out with our RA, but my roomate got called into work even though he was told he wasn't working that day. So instead we had to do express checkout where we run the risk of a $200 fine if our room isn't right without having to check out with the RA. I haven't goten the fine so I think we did it right.

So now I'm home, and all my stuff is unloaded in the living room. All I had to do now was go through it all. I did it in a couple of days and now I'm all home. Now I feel closure. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu-bye.

I am a comedian

Hey everyone, today was the big day, the day of the talent show. I entered and did a comedy routine.

Here's some back story. I'm a funny guy. I have ADHD. I get great jokes, but forget them. I recently started keeping a notebook on me so when I thought of one I can write it down to remember later. I had a ton of jokes, but some were better than others, and they were all over the place. I narrowed it down to my college jokes. Not many, just 5. I could go on trying to describe it, but I recorded it. So for your viewing pleasure, I present you with "Comedy is my Tallent."

Prety funny huh? Be on the look out for behind the scenes and other bonus material. I'll find out if I won or placed soon. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and "bu-bye."

This was a short post. This is almost ccpandhgvideos. Wow.

UPDATE: I didn't win, but that doesn't mean anything. I saw a comedian on comedy central that was beat by this guy in last comic standing, but the winner wasn't the one with the comedy central special. I recorded it, and put it on the web. I could be big.

The largest buzzkill EVER!

I wrote this on a popcorn bag and and paper towel. This was copied as I wrote it down, except for spell checks. Scroll down for the pictures.

Let me start out by saying I'm not home sick. I have spent probably 1/4 my conscious like away from my parents. What I'm experiencing, is summer sickness.

Let me explain my situation; it has been probably 3 or less weeks since school got out, I've barely spent time with my friends, haven't been able to work my summer job, and all around be a teen free from school. But what happens right as I'm about to start enjoying myself? I go tho college orientation where they act as if summer is already over and classes begin tomorrow. Be sure to show this writing because my people deserve to see my pain.

So my parents and I drive up on (check phone because I'm so out of it)...Sunday and stay over night at the same hotel we did last time we came up. Yes I've visited the college before, 3 times actually. I get here not knowing what to expect from this orientation. But hopefully something new and exciting right? Wrong. We start out my hearing about the honors college. Why? Because I'm a braniac and did well in high school. I heard the same things as I did from previous visits, while not being crammed like sardines like I did this time. After that boring review, next came college of engineering, my intended major. Second verse, same as the first. Then comes the big welcome. 3rd verse, same as the first, just slightly worse. Then we get separated from parents, and this is where the fun begins.

We then go on this 3 hour campus tour, very similar to the one I already took last summer, but far hotter. These were the thoughts in my mind. "Yes I know what that is." "Seen it." "I will forget where that is in 5 seconds, but I'll have a map next fall." One thing that wasn't covered in previous tours was the Rapunzel tower. Apparently every time a virgin graduates a brick falls from the top, and it's the oldest building here. Come graduation I will be looking for my brick, cause in the words of my mad as a hatter friend, "I'm a virgin and damn proud of it." Speaking of my tour guide (not really but she just came up and asked what I was doing) her school pride depressed me some. All of them were trying to get us pumped for school and teach us school songs. I find it hard to find school spirit when I haven't even been able to enjoy summer. I don't blame her, because I've had to try try to motivate unmotivated people, it's her job. But really, every chant was another Nial in my summer fun coffin. She tried to get us to come up with a creative chant based on our group #, BTW, it was 28. We tried "don't hate, appreciate and we're great." But through a misunderstanding, we came up with "28, cut the shit." It stuck.

Well nothing compares to the next event in terms of spirit crushing. After the tour, we went to see a student show, and while the writing, music, acting, and everything else was quite clever and funny, it broke my summer spirits COMPLETELY! The entire thing was about "how great college is, how you will meet new friends, and everything will change, especially you." Me change, ha. I don't change, I just amplify. Really, over the years I just got weirder and geekier. But what it seems like they were saying was "summer's over and school is back in. If you didn't enjoy your summer after high school, tough luck. Now forget your friends back home because when you back nothing will be the same and you guys will have nothing in common. But enjoy skype." I get that college socialization is meeting new friends, but I haven't been able to spend my summer with my friends and girlfriend. I can't wait to get back home to fun and friends. But I can't stress it enough, this isn't missing my loved ones, it's missing the fun of senior summer. Oh, I'm writing on a paper towel and popcorn bag because of lack of paper, and if I don't write this now, I will selectively forget by the time I'm home.
To be continued....
Day 2
Well it was really hot last night, even without a shirt and socks on. That cold shower when I first got back felt incredible. The fan didn't help much because the outlet is on the opposite side of the room and the cord is only so long. My idea for a cold washcloth helped in the beginning, but then became a hassle. Eventually I realized the windows could be opened and that helped bring the temperature down to a sleepable temp. I had to get packed up early because I had to go to the engineering complex for course sign up, and that's off main campus. Well being a guy, I didn't have a lot to pack up. Packed up, ate breakfast and got out to the buss stop. I then went over to the engineering complex, and got more speeches, but this time it was new stuff. Woohoo.

I then signed up for classes. That didn't take very long. Well after that we went to the train station, where I waited for the train for 3 hours. We got there 3 hours early for some reason, then the train was running 30 minutes late. Oh well. I took the train for the first time. It was like an airplane, only slower, no security check, more leg room, and I could use my phone. I didn't bring anything to do from home, so I got a head start on the summer reading assignment for the honors college. I was not expecting a reading assignment over the summer. I thought those were over with with once I got out of k-12 schooling. Oh well, the book is interesting enough. The book is All Other Nights by Dara Horn. Like I said, interesting enough to get through. The waiting for the train for 3 hours without having to worry about doing anything put me back into summer mode, because you can only hang out in a train station without having to worry about work during the summer.

Back Home
Well I've gotten back to my fun life of out of school. Why just today darkenedoptimist and I worked on the pinata for my graduation party and watched Ren n Stimpy and Flintstones while we waited for the paint to dry. There was a situation where the TV gave out. I spent about 15 minutes connecting and disconnecting all the cords that connect through the cable. I have 4 video game consoles connected through the cable on my TV, so I was trying to find the short in one of them, since when connected, I got zigzag snow and when disconnected I got random snow. DO found it funny to watch me fiddle around with it. Oh well, whatever makes her happy. Somehow having the powerstrip on caused the problem. Oh well.
