Never judge a book by it's cover

Hey everyone, Pokematic here with a really interesting story.

In English, our next book is a book of our choice, as long as it is over 150 pages and has literary merit, and can't have a movie. Well my initial idea was "hells yeah, gonna read some manga!" And being rather fond of Pokemon, I wanted to read Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventures. I initially proposed the idea to my English teacher, and she said "No, there can't be literary merit in Pokemon." So I took on the challenge. I would have just pointed out literary merit on the spot because first she asked "is there literary merit?" to which I had no answer except, "uh..yeah?"

The reason that idea crossed my mind is because I remember Electric Tale of Pikachu having more depth than Catcher in the rye (worst book ever.) Anyways, I took out my copy of Pokemon DP Adventures Vol. 1 and started analysing it. I pulled 4 solid examples out of the first chapter. Those involved "a commentary on how man is out of touch with nature," "how man has a need to control nature," "role reversals," and "a hero's journey." All those are literary devices we talk about in English class. And I did it all in 5 paragraph persuasive essay format, they format used in English class.

After writing it I was amazed at my own genius. I was laughing some because it was such an outrageous concept to read manga, and Pokemon manga at that, in a formal English class. Well I showed it to my teacher, and she is letting me read Pokemon DP Adventures for my assignment. Finally we get to read something good for a change. And this may change the English curriculum if I'm lucky. I may do such a stellar job that the English world will take another look at manga and see the depth it has, and that there is serious things to be learned from it.

I do plan to one day make this into an Internet series, but that is for a later time. Now enjoy an excerpt from my paper, but no steeling. Proper MLA sighting if you are to use this as an example.

Hareta, the main protagonist, demonstrates how out of touch man is with nature. On pages 11 through 12, Hareta is challenged to a race against a fish Pokemon by that same fish Pokemon and on the lower panel on page 12 Hareta is seen climbing trees with monkey like Pokemon and cutting a tree down with his teeth the same way a beaver like Pokemon is doing right next to him. Mitsumi, the other protagonist, watches in aw as Hareta does this acts stating, “What’s with this kid? He is practically a Pokemon himself.” (12) This is a commentary on how man is detached from nature. Hareta is one with the Pokemon. He does what they do, and understands what they say. Hareta shows what man would be like if he stayed one with nature. Mitsumi on the other hand, represents modern man from the modern world. She watches Hareta in disbelief as he does these acts and feels he himself is almost a Pokemon. A commentary on man’s detachment from nature surely has literary merit.

I hope you enjoyed. This has been Pokemoatic, and bu-bye.

Hall of washouts rant

Hey followers, Pokematic here again. Well today is Friday night and one thing I do every Friday is watch the premiers of Young Justice, Ben Ten Ultimate Alien, Generator Rex, and Star Wars the Clone Wars. Well tonight, all the great cartoons were set by the wayside for Hall of Game, or as I call Hall of Washouts, since anyone who will show up on that stupid award show must be a washout. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
A stupid award show that no one will watch ruined my Friday night. Cartoon Network, get your head out of your ass and drop this live action crap already! No one likes it, no one watches it, and no one cares.

Don't watch this Live Action bs and we can restore Cartoon Network to it's former glory.

I am most unforgetable

Last Monday was the Senior Bear Awards where seniors at the school vote for students to win awards. These are like Most Unforgettable, Best Dancer, Favorite Family, ect. Due to the crazy things I've done over my high school career like winning the lemon eating contest, singing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun during a karaoke contest, wearing a safety vest to school, going all out for spirit week, and other memorable things.

Well due to those things, I was nominated for most unforgettable. Almost everyone knew I was going to win. Everyone knows me for one thing or another. I got sort of dressed up for the event. I gave myself a comb-over and wore a polo shirt. Needless to say I wore my vest. Here is a picture of the comb over.

I wish I had video of the event. It runs similar to the Oscars. There is an introduction with a theme. This year it was star wars, where video students made a star wars parody. It was funny. Then the video and/or student leadership kids introduce the award. There is then a video with the all the nominees doing something related to what they are nominated for. After the nominee video, the kids handing out the awards read who the winners are and the winners walk across the stage to receive their award. I win and go up to the stage. Because it was most unforgettable, I needed to do something unforgettable and different. Instead of just walking across, I moon walked across. Or as best I can moon walk. Here is the picture of me with my awards.

It's cool. The statue has my name on it, the awarded, the year, and "Senior Bear Awards." It came with a certificate with the same info. I'm happy I was recognised for all the crazy things I do.

And on a side note, I wear a giant key chain that weighs 3 pounds. Because one of the awards was coolest car, I was asked to have my key chain used in the presentation of the award. It was funny, and everyone knew it was my key chain. I got it back exactly they way I had it before. It was good fun.

English 2nd Semester fear

Hey everyone, because of the snow day, it's time for a new blog post. I will likely turn this into a video later on, but here is a text review of my predictions for second semester English.

First semester started and things weren't super great. We had to write a speech on how our summer reading book changed our life. I read "Tom Sayer," and that book didn't affect me at all. Still a good book, just no life changing. I still wrote an amazing speech and had it not been for my pacing, I would have gotten a perfect on it. But the other books and units were good. "One Flew Over the Coocoos Nest" was really interesting, and the only 2 symbols were blatantly obvious. The assignments were decent as well. Then there was "Things They Carried." While the book was a war protest novel, it was a bazillion times better than "Johnny Got His Gun." Mainly because it was written in complete sentences and wasn't random. There also wasn't any symbols. Everything we did was plot based. We also had this assignment were we had to teach a section of the novel to the class. That was cool, and we had to incorporate a movie clip. Most people, including myself, used "Forest Gump" for their clip. We almost saw the whole movie by the time that unit was done. There was also a media unit. It seems like every year in high school we did a media unit in English. Not sure how that fits into English, but we get to watch reality TV. First semester was good English wise. It gave me faith in English class again. Click here for my English rant.

But now in second semester, things are starting to look grim. We are reading "A Streetcar Named Desire," and it is heavy in symbols. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
English was just starting to be cool again. My faith was revived, but now it is under attack again.
Why? WHY? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????????????????
Maybe this is just a fluke. Maybe the rest of the year will be good. Only time will tell.
So long everyone.

What a week

Hey everyone, I have had one hell of a week. This week was finals week, so like usual, I studied my but off the weekend prior. And I'm talking, lock my self in my room and only come out for food study. So then comes finals. I was prepared. My hardest final I'd have to say was world history. I just have trouble understanding why I need to learn about events that happened 100's of years ago that happened through a bunch of dead guys. My best was probably AP Calc. Math has always been my thing, and is the only AP class I'm taking. Strangely, even if I got every single question right including the extra credit, I would have still gotten a lower grade because mine already was over 100%.

In drama, I had to do a monologue written and preformed by me. For those who don't know, a monologue is an extended speech given by one person that generally tells a story. When I get around to it I think I'll film and post it. Mine wasn't a traditional monologue, it was more of a duologue between myself. It met the requirements though and my drama teacher said it was fine. I had other classes but none had any other story to go with them.

So now onto this weekend. On Saturday, I had a big competition for a scholarship for the college I am going to next year. If I get the grand prize, it's $50,000 in tuition. If I don't get it, there's a next level up prize of $6,000. But just for competing, I get %3,000 in tuition and $4,000 for room and board. Just to make things clear, the big prizes are in addition to the $7,000 for just competing.

The competition consisted of an essay and group problem solving. Just because I don't want to get in any sort of trouble, that's all I can tell you. They might or might not care if I tell you the promotes and I might or might not get caught. Just being safe than sorry. That lasted about 2 hours. After that, they provided lunch. Chicken BLT, to bad I don't like chicken. So then I had a hot dog at the basket ball game. That was included, so I figured "why not, it's free." The basket ball game that is, hot dog combo I had was $6.

So that was my week. Glad it's over and now I can relax until Monday.

I think I can see into the future

Hey everyone. I've been sick the past couple of days with a bad cold, but that isn't the topic of this post. Last night, I dreamed I almost drank a suspicious glass of milk, and then today, I think I did the same exact thing. In my dream, the milk said it expired in 2013, and I dream in the present, it was super translucent, and had some chunks floating in it. This morning, I wanted some milk, and there was a glass of it in the fridge. When the milk is almost empty, my parents pour it into a cup, seal it, and put it in the fridge to save space. I drank it today, and it wasn't bad tasting or anything, but then later, I felt sick from it like when I've had bad milk in the past, but less severe.

This isn't the first time this has happened. The country club I work for requires us to request for caddie jobs and then it is posted on the website on weather we got one or not. I dreamed one night that I would carry something heavy on may back, and the next day I was called up to caddie even though I didn't get assigned a job.

Maybe these, and other small elements, are just coincidences, but I think I might be able to see the future though my dreams sometimes, but I never know I did until it happens.

My life just gets weirder and weirder. Later.

My Video Site is now up for beta testing

After many hours of going back and forth between blog posts, videos on multiple sites, and html editing, I have neerly finished my "site" for my videos. I know I still have work to do, but I made the decision to open it up for beta testing. Click here to go to the home page-> Home.

Please let me know of any errors in spelling, video playback, dead links, or of any other things that would make the site flow better. Just post a comment on the blog post page.

I am aware that I need to put a Home Page link on every page but feel free to tell me about any other issues. I can most likely fix it.

Thank-you for your help. Later.
