One of the guys from CNN was walking out of the truck so I asked him what was happening, because it's not every day you get every news truck parked in practically your back yard. He said "Romney." I was thinking, "cool, I hope maybe I could get in." I don't know much about Romney, but I don't care. It's not every day that a presidential candidate comes to campus. It could have been Obama for all I care, I would have been there and I'm not a fan of Obama at all. I went down to the computer lab and registered. It was in 2 hours, so I knew it was a stretch if I would get in. I eat, drop off my coat at my room, and go to the center that it's held at. I got in line, wait, talk so some people in line, get up to the front, and it turns out I'm not on the list, so I was sent to the overflow room. Darn it.
In the overflow room they had a live stream on 2 TV carts. It wouldn't be the same as being in the room, but it would have worked. While there I talked with some other people and met another engineer. We talked some. Then this guy said that they were putting in more chairs and would try to get us in. I thought great. Then I saw that there was a line moving with people from the overflow. I go get in line, and make it in, even though I'm in the standing section behind the media. Here's some cool pics and vid I took of the media.
We were then given an introduction by these guys. I don't remember who exactly they were, but I assume that they were close people to the Romney campaign. I got some pictures of them, but they aren't the best quality. Here they are anyways.
Now for the main event. Romney walks on and we get so applause. I don't remember all the points of his speech, but I do remember one point quite vividly. He said he was going to remove Obamacare, and I was the first to start cheering. You might have even been able to hear my "woooo!!!!" on the news. It didn't matter that I was standing the entire time, this was really cool. Here is the best pic I got of him. For the other pictures of less quality, and for others, click here.
Then came time for the question time. Some were hard questions, others weren't. He did do a good job answering though. I realized that I was standing next to the liberals who don't agree when he said something about defunding Planned Parenthood. As the pro-life conservative I am, I cheered at that with some good claps, but the people next to me started boo-ing. I was hoping that they wouldn't get to rowdy, because I would hate to be right next to them if they were escorted out. Oh well, they stayed civil. Then at the end when it was time for Romney to leave, one guy started yelling something about how he would have let this one big company go bankrupt. I don't remember what it was, just that it was kind of scary. I see it on the news and it's interesting, but that's on TV, behind a screen. This was right up close. I didn't want something to go down. Luckily nothing went down.
I waited outside in hopes of shaking Mr. Romney's hand and having a little claim to fame, like other people I know who have met presidents. Unfortunately I didn't get to. Oh well, it was still really cool. I'm not sure if I'll vote for him against other republicans, but I will if he goes against Obama. On the way out I saw this sign.
I always love it when I see these signs that say that this is a super secure area, and lots of security. I even got this pic of the secret service.
This was such a cool event. Well this has been Pokematic signing off and bu-bye.
I found a ustream video of the meeting. At around 13:20, right after the part about Obamacare, you can faintly hear my "wooooo!"
